The flying hours in my log book are mounting up and I haven't lost a day through ill health since the war started.
in a letter home, July 1940
Unfortunately Bill's first log book was lost during a German attack on HMS Indomitable, August 12, 1942, during Operation Pedestal. This log book is from July 1941 until his last flight in November of 1945.
Gaps in flying are often due to Bill being on leave, with the largest gap being from his time as Commander Flying on HMS Ruler. During which, he only flew a few times, and never from Ruler's deck.
